![]() ![]() However, this painting looks almost nothing like the photo haha, I just liked the composition, lighting and forest vibes of the photo.īefore I start, I should mention that like with art, good or bad level design is subjective in relation to the game’s core values. For example, this painting is fairly close to the original photo, except I had more fun with the edges and bringing out the shiny-ness. Can I rearrange the values to get a different feeling? Can I change the hues or the entire palette to convey something different? etc. It might appear as though I’m copying what I see in front of me, but really I’m asking myself how can I improve what in real life. ![]() ![]() This applies to things like figure drawing and still life as well. Whenever you’re trapped because you have to copy something (exactly as it is, perfectly), I feel like you become a machine and you’re not really gaining any knowledge from the study. Whatever it is, I try to have fun and make it personal. Maybe I just like the lighting, or maybe I just like the texture. Even if I’m doing just a study (like in these paintings), I’m always trying to see what I’m trying to gain from that study. When I say master study, I’m not doing a master copy. ![]()
